DS650 rocky mountian winch mount
#1
Anyone have the winch or winch mount on rocky mountain atv for the DS. I ride a lot of river beds and am tired or pulling the DS out. Havent gotten it stuck in a while but the last time I did it took over an hour to get out. All my buddy was riding was a 200x 3 wheeler so had to get it out by hand. I'm hoping someone has one on here, I would like to know how and where it mounts to the quad.

For only 30 some bucks I might pick one up and see how I like the mount before I spend all the money on the winch. Or just steal the winch off my roomates quad. Im sure he would love that.

I just took mine and drilled threw the frame. The mounting hole on the plate that came with it lined up with tubes that the top of the bumper are on. The winch I got off Ebay came with the roller that fits right in the top hoop of the front bumper of the baja with a little grinding on the holder. Winch sits behind bumper like it was meant to go there.

I just installed the Warn 1.5 winch. They now have a mounting plate to go w/ it (About $30) Bought thru A & B Extreme ? Advertiser at top of Forums.. Mt plate is Warn part #69519. Says it works w/ 2001 to present, but w/ a little bit of wiggling, works fine on my 2000

Post some pics if you can. And let us know how the winch does.

Just looked at your link & it is the SAME winch mount plate. (Notice part #). Mount the plate 1st, BUT DO NOT tighten it down yet. then wiggle the plat that comes w/ the winch & the winch into place & attach to the mounting plate. Fairlead will protrude thru upper part of front bumper. Once you have it lined up, 1st tighten up the winch to the plates. After those are tight, then tighten mounting plate to the frame & all should be snug now. Run lines along fram up to behind headlight/ in front of dashboard. Run switch to someplace on left handlebar & attach separate red wire to a switched lead (I used the red one on the BACK of the green dashboard light). Make sure that steering is fully operable B4 you permanently attach switch or wire could pull loose. I am still looking to see where I might mount my switch. Am kind of thinking about mounting to dashboard, as it would be less prone to getting banged up than handlebar bracket that comes w/ the winch.
PM me if you have questions. Will try to get pics if I can figure out how to get this to work.

If you are going to mount a winch on the ds, I would suggest a small lightweight one. The superwinch 1500 is always on sale at our local farm and fleet for 95-100 bucks. I bought this winch a few years back for my old utility, and although not the most powerful, it got me though a lot. (and is a LOT lighter than a 2500-3k lb winch)
