Default Carb help!!!!! Running lean!

I am running a Trinity Stage IV ehaust and a 172.5 main jet. Air screw is set at stock. My elevation is about 400 ft. The bike is running lean, found out last night as my headers were glowing red. I have the stock main jet and a 175. Any suggestions on what I should set it at?

Hey Phil , I have read in some other posts that glowing headers has something to do with Fuel being bad ..

But that leads to another question .. Do you notice it when its just sitting there at idle or when youve been running WOT ??

They were glowing as I was riding and then again when I would stop. Glowing headers is due to a lean fuel/air mixture to what I have always understood, not bad fuel. I always run 91 octane from the same place.

Well with the mods you have it would make sense to increase the fuel.

Whats the Plug look like ? Have you checked that ?

No I haven't checked the plugs yet, but I think I will pull them today and clean them just to be sure as well as pull out the carb and maybe try the 175 main with three clicks on the screw. Or should I just try adjusting the number of clicks?

It would be well worth your time to check the plugs first to see whats what. Best would be to run a new set of clean plugs gapped properly ..THEN check the color.

BUT if you decide to just swap out to a 175 youll probably be just fine .. The extra fuel wont kill anything.

When you do a high speed downshift, does the motor slightly backfire.
If yes, turn pilot jet screw out to 4 turns. If still backfires, change pilot jet to 45.
Many 01's came with a 40.

Till you can get a 45, turn out jet screw to 5 1/2 turns.
