my ds wont start!!
#1
i just bought my ds a few months ago, and took it out riding twice but now it wont start!! the last time i had it running it ran fine in the higher rpm range, but as the rpms came down it would die!! but it would also start right up again with no problem. plus as i would accellerate out of idle speed the engine would bog down like it was still cold.. but as soon as i got passed the that and the rpms grew, the bike ran great!! and like i said now it wont start. it just cranks and cranks and eventually it backfires. we checked the carb and it looked fine. fuel is good, plugs were new and had enough spark, we also did not find any vacuum leaks and the compression seams fine! please help i am going out of my mind!!

Plugs are new, or were new at one time. With my experiences with the DS once you foul the plugs they are junk, cleaning them will not help. Mine I had to adjust the pilot air screw a 1/4 turn in, my DS would do similar issues as yours seems to be doing right from the factory. It was hard starting and would take forever to start if i would let it sit for even a week. When I went to the dealer for another set of plugs the first time they told me their 03 Baja was fouling plugs as well just driving it out of the shop to infront of the building, they are the ones who directed me to the pilot air adjstment and I have not fouled a plug since, except for forgetting to shut off the choke once and then I had to get another set of plugs.

i am having the exact same problem, but in between school and work i havent had ANY time to play with it....i was having the problem before i had the TM45 installed, and then it would fire up, ran just like yours, died at low rpm's, backfires, sluggish at first, then took off at higher rpm's. so should i just take it back to the shop and let them operate on it? by the way, my shop is Paris Suzuki, in paris, TX if any of you are familiar with them...

i finally found out what was wrong with my bike. the woodruff key wiggled loose and finally broke off the crankshaft and the fly wheel spun out of control. which in turn screwed up my timing, so thats why it wouldn't start. hope thats not your problem because a crank can easily set you back $900.00. hope this helps.
