The guy is a Bomb tech, and was helping me out. He's going to show me how to do them, I just didn't have the time. He did the valves, an oil change, including oil, and filter, for 80.00.
I'll find out what shims I have in my bike, and let you guy's know. He did say it was the last size available.

If that is the last size available take them to a machine shop. They can grind off what you need. Ive had mine ground like 3 times already.

damn $80.00 I bought 4 quartz of amsoil full synthetic and a new filter for a total of $37.00 and did the valves myself, you could have 50.00 for beer money when you start doing it your self, let us know how it turns out, is he your buddy? charging you 43.00 dollars to check your valves? did he put synthetic in or dino oil at 2.47 a quart? then he charged you 59.00 to check your valves, we are in the wrong line of business, i hope he isnt your buddy,

LOL...He's a good guy, and an awsome mechanic. If I had the time to do it myself, I would definately do it. Going forward, I'm hoping to do it myself. Considering the local dealer wanted almost 300.00 for valve adjustment, and an oil change, not including parts...I was happy to pay 80.00.

Ditto on grinding the shims on the valves. When I put my cams in, I couldn't get any feeler gauge in there even with the smallest shims made. Luckily I have a surface grinder at work. I think I ended up taking .009 off of the intake and .006 off of the exhaust. Like was said eariler, just find a good machine shop and tell them what you want taken off.

I may be mistaken, (and need to be enlightened), but if the valves will not adjust to spec, isn't that an indication that something is wrong, or in need of repair? I can see how grinding the shims would work, but if that's the only way to get it in spec, isn't that just a band aid to a real problem?
I'm an old school 2 stroke guy, so I'm learning the way of the four stroke as I go...
Thanks for the replys, and suggestions!!!

I thought you had to remove the gas tank and such to get to valve cover..... Seems like it would take longer then 20 minutes......Well it would take me longer then 20 minutes anyway..........

It only takes seconds to cut the duckt tape and lift the tank. I'm tired of the nut and bolts now its duckt tape, bailing wire and zip ties!!!!!!!!!!!!
