I just bought one as well but I haven't put it on yet. I had a aftermarket slip-on previously so I'm hoping I can just slip it on with no changes to my settings.

Check everything again and make sure your getting a spark and fuel. Putting a slip-on on shouldn't affect your quads ability to start. Sounds to me like it's time to adjust the valves.

Turn out pilot screw 4 turns.
I would go to 4th groove down from top of jet needle.

Hey Joe, you've been here since 2001 and you only posted 169 times? You don't get out much do you......lol

You must follow this theory:

“Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.”

if those carb settings dont work i would take the pipe back and either get a new hmf or get another pipe

I kind of doubt the hmf is the problem. Try adjusting your screw (if its way off might try 1/2 turns and see if it starts easier further in or out)

potential problems to check into and rule out:
the starter jet looks just like the main jet, some people have mistakenly replaced it instead of the main. the main is up inside a brass tube and the stocker was a 165, the starter jet is in front of it and is somewhere around a 40.

you've changed your needle setting, but you lowered the needle by raising the clip while most run 4th or 5th groove. also, when reinstalling the carb cap, it is very easy to accidentally not get the lip of the diaphram down in the groove all the way around, which causes vacuum leak.

The air vent orifice - front of carb intake - may be slightly plugged.

Turn out and remove pilot adjustment screw.
Use rubber tipped air nozzle.
Blow air into pilot screw opening.
Replace adjustment screw. After seating, backout 4 turns.

Please give us an update, so we can follow you and resolve this problem.

When I installed my HMF, I jetted from a 165 to 170. I still had the stock air filter at that time. A 175 was too rich, becasue I had loss of power down low (low RPM's on the trails). I recommend you check the carb as others have suggested. With the UNI air filter added, a 175 should be perfect. I'm running a 175 now that I added the K&N with Outerwear. As Coyoteman wrote, maybe the valve's need a check too. Good luck.
