Let me just say. . . I haven't heard of anyone having that issue. . .

I don't want to say it differently or there won't be enough wood to knock on

Let us know. . . there may be people on the forum that can help you with a slightly used part

It would back fire and my starter would try to turn my one way gear backwards and it ground the teeth off of it

YEA, the stock CDI and carb and end cap, that would be a lot better- for me and shmee

Yeah Bomber I had the same problem with another cdi though. Boy that was an expensive repair too. The prob I had was the cdi advanced the timing to much and made a harsher recoil. I think it was about a 4 or 5 hundie repair. I put my stock cdi back on. There have been quite a few ds owners that have had this same problem. Wait untill you see how flat those roller bearings are on your sprag gear....

Yes,Its is the CDI boxes causing the problem! They advance the timing to 18 and that is the problem. If you had a programable box you program, your own advance and avoid this. The boxes are cheap but the repairs are not!!!
