annoying prob. help?
#1
Hey guys I have a new annoying prob. At high rpms, in the meat of the power band my ds starts to sputter and cut out a lil bit. It happens a little before the limiter kicks in. Sometimes it will puff a little black smoke. My valves are within spec. Carb was/is jetted dead on. Plugs are newer. I'm wondering if I am having an ignition issue. Air leak in a carb line. I haven't done any new mods or changed anything. I serviced the carb and air filter too. I am really dumbfounded. Did I maybe overlook something silly? Any help wil be appretiated. Thanks, Craig

First disconnect the plug going into the rectifier - back of airbox.
Put some dialectic grease on the plug and re-install.
Second - What year is your DS? Are you turning the motor over 7500rpm?
On 2000 and 2001 with rev limiter set at 7700 rpm, the ignition will start to retard above 7400 rpm causing overrich condition.

Craig,
Try cracking the gas cap - perhaps your fuel tank vent hose is pinched causing your engine to not get enough gas. Of course when your engine is at high RPMs it is using more gas than ever, so this would make sense. If you crack the gas tank and things change then I'd pull the tank shroud and re-route that clear vent tube so that it is breathing again.

you know a while back i rebuilt my motor and ran my fuel line on top of the intake from the tank to the carb and it would sputter after riding and hitting wide open throttle, so I stopped and watched my fuel line it is clear and i could see a bubble suck down from above the intake to the carb then it woulf fill with gas for a minute then suck another bubble, i think i had my new gas line too long cause I now run it underneath the intake and it is a little shorter now no more bubble and no more missing kinda like magic lol
