its always like this..im sure if you posted this same topic in honda forums everyone would say get the 400 and not the DS...
your right it usually is like this...but the onlything the 400ex really does a bit better than the ds are small trails...so for him it depends on if he wants to spend the extra money on the ds or just get a 400ex for rippin around on..they are both good quads my friend has a piped 400ex(white bro e series) its a fun quad to drive and rip around on...then the ds is just allot faster with awesome stock shocks..very comftorable, huge top speed, and if you get the baja x you will have all those mods which would cost allot later to put on say a 400ex all those skids nerfs hang guards bumpers rims etc.

I'm 5'9" and weigh 190lbs and I have no problem handling my DS. Experience plays a bigger part in handling a bike then height and weight.

I laughed at people who used to say " your only 12 years old you can't ride a Husqvarna 400" Until I kicked their A$$ on the track!

A DS and EX comparison is not comparing apples to apples. They were designed for two different types of riding. The DS is for all out desert racing where the EX is primarily designed for track use IMHO...... Yes they can cross over but the weakness of each will become more apparent.
