The new ron wood "thebom" 14:1 piston!!
No aftermarket pistons are made for the DS. They are adapted from other models or V-8's. To get a piston forging specifically designed for the DS, you have to have it built. Anyone got $20 grand?
The HPR piston is nitrous ready, has a superior ring package, lightweight FSR, gas ported, strong lightweight tool steel wrist pin, and has hundreds of hours of testing in a ds650 motor- it is on it's 5th generation of design improvement. The new piston coming this summer will be a purpose built DS forging with some special features not seen on any DS piston before.

Shmee,
I agree with you 100%! Like you pointed out, there is nothing wrong with Eric's piston. From my standpoint, I think its great that people have access to more than one solution. It's a healthy thing for the consumer, and the market. Diversity and choice of product helps all consumers in the long run. I for one am glad that J. Ross (TheBOM) has encouraged an already very experienced company like Ron Wood Racing to further develop new products. I know of no company that has more racing experience with the Rotax motor than Ron Wood Racing. The popularity of the Ron Wood 14:1 piston has already encouraged new development of other products in the Ron Wood camp. Although new development of products for the DS was delayed for a year or two, I think you see more new motor products for the DS from Ron Wood Racing in the next 6-8 months. All of these developments couldnt happen without consumers choosing alternatives.

Here is just a little more info to add - I talked with Elliott today regarding the CP pistons they carry. Each of the CP pistons they carry, including the 14:1 piston, are made specifically for the combustion chamber of the DS650 Rotax motor. The result is a more accurate compression rating.
