Default I need more HELP....

Well, i did what you all said...i bought the pc545 and i must say that it has waaay more cranking power than the stocker. But, it must not have been all of the problem because it still will not start. To recap what is going on, the DS will not start on its own. I was able to get the bike pull started, but it will not stay running on its own. It will spit, sputter, pop any everthing else it can do to shut off. Well i changed the plugs, still would not start. Plugged the stock CDI back in, still would not start. What is the deal? Does anyone have any more suggestions before i have the stupid thing hauled off to the dealer?

Thanks,

Kenny W.

It sounds like your magneto is having problems. It isn't generating enough current at low rpm's to run the engine. That would explain why it smooths out as you go up in rpm. Probably doesn't have much power at low rpm either due to poor spark stemming from the lack of current going to the coil. That's my guess anyway. Good luck!

I have no idea if you checked, but are your valves adjusted? Those are super critical for the machine to start. I wouldn't check anything else till you getm them adjusted if they are not.

You know blackhawk, me and a buddy were talking about that today. It sounded like the valves were tapping and i asked if the were too tight if that could cause that kind of a problem. I guess i will just take it in and have them give it the once over. Now i am wondering if i should go ahead and get the bigger valves and springs while it is opened up.

HMMMM

Don't bother changing the valves unless you are going to do the other work. MAking the valves bigger while keeping everything else the same wont help you any - it'll probably just make it run more like a 2 stroke with no bottom end power. If you know someone that has adjusted valves before it isn't that hard of a job. Once you see it done once you'll be able to do it again if you are mechanically apt. It really isn't that hard, you just have to know what you are looking at and what you are looking for.
