Default cheap fan fix

heres a good and easy fix for the junk fans on the ds, buy a fan for a 2002-2005 honda 954 crotch rocket lots of them on ebay,I got one for $11.00 you will have to sand or turn down the outer lip on the honda fan to get it to fit in the ds schroud one screw will line up with the stock ds mounting location but to secure the other points you can use 2 zip ties the stock heat shield can be used, the honda fan is alot thinner and it should last, after all it is a honda

When I bought my ds, the fan didn't work. I just removed it and bought shrouds { only have them on the bike in the summer }, and havent over heated once.

When I first bought a DS I went through 5 fans in four months. I made my own rubber mounts. It seems like it's working. 2001 DS

Same here: Replaced 5 fans in 2 years and then built some new mounts and have had the same fan in for over 3 years now - no problems.

I'm stupmed here. How is putting rubber mounts on a DS make the Fan last longer? I have a 2000 DS and the fan never went out on me yet. I have been through a lot of mud and sand on this machine Fan still good.

Not really rubber mounts, but the old design where the bolts slide into the fan housing would allway rattle out. I would then try to keep tightening them and I believe the fan just gets pulled apart.
I install a 1/4" pice of flat metal top and bottom and flat bolted my fan to that and no problems since.
