Default steering stem

I was taking a good look at the baja today and noticed there is a groove starting to wear into the stem. I have not realy wrecked it that bad or landed it on the front end. Is it a bent steering stem and can i shave off the little piece of metal it is rubbing against?

Where do you see the groove? What is it rubbing on?
Mine didn't really look bent, but after getting it loose and being able to look at it, I see it is. Still can't get it out of the chassis to replace it though. You might have to do a little work to get it out, too.

It is rubbing on the bar that holds the top of the shocks.

2BIG2Fast I just looked my '00 DS650, '01 DS650 & booth have the same rubbing on the steering stem. The '00 has been wreaked once & the '01 has never. I think they made it close fit were it wears some?

Both of mine were like that. I think it just the way they come.

Mine is also like that, but it does have a piece of rubber to rub against.

I just checked the brand new one I installed yesterday and it does not hit there by 1/16" My old one was rubbing there but it was bent. The scarring looks like it would not have affect me at all.
