Well I replaced my spar clutch and a gear due to the damaged the pro com CDI caused. I got the bike back together and then found three small shims all together on the ground. I know it goes either behind or in front of one two gears the starter turns but I'm not sure where. I looked at a schematic of the motor and it does not show them. Any ideas. Thanks.

If my memory wasnt so damn bad I would be able to help more (just did all this 9 months ago). The shims should in fact go on those gear shafts (I beleive one on outside and two on inside).
Do you have a ds mechanics manual? (Either on cd or the book?) If needed I can send you the page that shows the assembly of all those gears inside the cover.

My cd seems to be out at my buddies shop (where I keep my quad). I will try to get out there today to get the cd.
Does anybody else have a cd that they can send him the page? I just know how much it sucks to be at a dead stop with a quad opened up.

Hey don't worry about it. I called DS BMW and they checked 4 different schematics and found no shims. I also called Ron Woods and talked to Elliot their mech and he said he has never seen Shims in the DS on that side. I tried to put them in where it looked like they might go but it jammed the gears and the motor would not turn over. I took them back out and the bike starts and runs fine. The shims where so small its not going to make much of a difference anyway. The only thing them gears do anyway is start the motor. Once running they mean nothing. Well I ripped that side of the motor apart 3 times. It took me 2 hrs the first time and 1 hour the the last. I want to thank all for their assistance. This is an awesome site. Later, D

 

well my tear-down sheet and my quad showed that there are shims inside...lol. As long as it starts and runs and dosnt make any funny sounds I guess I wouldnt worry about it.
