I use mine for trail riding. Most trails I ride the 48mm is no problem.

I'm thinking TM 48, the lectron is a little pricey for my budget. I plan on a dyno session but I would like to be in the ball park before I take it there, where are the TM 48 users jetted at? I am going to try to get close with the old seat of the pants before the dyno, but don't know where to start.

If you're buying a new carb, most places will pre-jet it according to your mods so it should be fairly close when you get it.

Crazypainter is right, when you buy the TM45, all you have to do is find out if they pre-jet it for you. Most companies do pre-jet. They will ask you questions to get the jetting correct.

What about a carb from sudco, I know these carbs are designed for harleys and they come pre jetted, but I think the jetting is way off for the DS.

They wont be pre-jetted for the DS, and wont have the appropriate pump jet.
