First off I'd like to thank everyone for all the info that they provide on this site. I haven't posted much but I've read almost the whole forum and there is some good stuff here. In April I got my DS. Bone stock 2000. I plan on dune riding later this year when it cools off. Blah Blah Blah Now for the upgrade. SAND TIRES!!!!!!!!!! I went with 22x8x10 Dunetrackers for the front and 22x11x10 8 paddle ITP Sand Stars for the rear mounted on Douglas wheels. I'm getting them from Fullerton Sand Sports. Very good price & Joe is great to talk to and has tons of good advice. A special thanks to Chirs (BlackHawk) for taking the time to meet with me and BS about the DS. Now what's next? Maybe a twist throttle?

See you at the dunes,
Brian

Well finally you start posting after a year of reading. You might want to look into a good exaust system or maybe even a carb. There is alot of parts to choose from. Its all up to you in the end.

Well, it all depends on the noise restrictions where you ride. If not, then a good end cap, k&n, rejet the carb and drop a tooth on the front sprocket and then you should be set to cruise the dunes. Just depends on what you have in mind....keep us posted.

Hi there and
Congratulations on your purchase as I also purchase my DS about a year ago.
I remember when I had some money to burn for just about any bike I wanted.
It took about a year’s time to read and sit on all the various ATV's out there for like 30 minutes each to see which I liked and which I did not. I chose the DS the moment I sat on her it just fit me right. I am still happy with her to this day.
Your already ahead of the game in that your picking up on all the various hints and tips others have learned.
I sure from what you have read here that come time to make some mods you need to work from the outside in.
Do all the external modifications first ... then go Big with the internal cams, pistons and head work if you feel you still need more power.
I pretty much solely ride Glamis and ButterCup these days and am quite happy with how the DS performs....
It may not be the fastest anymore with the new 686Raptor but its still the most plush comfortable bike I have ever ridden.

Ride hard, ride safe and always pack out what you pack in.... You know leave the place the way you found it ... Or better !

See ya in the dunes.

Boogey, I just like to test the waters first. Exhaust or endcap coming soon.

Choose,Is the stock front sprocket on a 2000 DS a 16 tooth?

Scroundrel, Corona is not to far from me e-mail me with the time and date and I'll be there to pick up that " Lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... "you speek of.

Donal, Newhall is next to Valencia. Which is also part of Santa Clarita. Magic Mountain is here too!

ILivSD, Thanks for the advice. I'm going for all the bolt-ons first. Just need to pace myself. Sometimes its hard.

Heck guys I still need to buy another quad for the kids and a trailer to drag them around still.

I went with the HMF Slip-On and have been pleased since. A nice bottom to mid kick in HP. I also bought a Procom CDI. The CDI is now off the bike until they improve/fix the product. I'm probably going to save the extra $$$ to purchase a Vortex. Many users on this forum have reported the "wicked kickback" with their Procom units. Others stated that the Big Gun (made by Procom) has a different program/configuration that is specifically configured to Big Gun's specifications. The end-cap on the stock muffler is suppose to be a cheap bolt-on upgrade so try that next. You'll probably have to rejet, main jets are about $3.50 each from the dealer. In my 04 a 165 was stock, I'm running a 175 now. The wife asked why I purchased new when I'm always thinking of little add-ons. She thought the reason I bought a new DS was so I didn't have to wrench on it. Wrong! The guys to deal with are Horsepower Research (HPR). Great guys in KY. I'm only purchased a HPR clutch kit, but plan to do business with these guys as I slowly step up.

The end cap is a good place to start. rejet and a K&N filter you wont beleive the difference. I have had really good luck with the sandstar tires great for just dunin, not so great for dragging. Like 1livsd said start with your external mods first and go from there. Check the Whats in my garage thread for some of your stuff,it can save a nice chunk of change. Getting inside the motor can get real expensive really fast do your homework and ask alot of questions.
