Bad news when you have your CDI go out. Just to let you know it's not always the aftermarket CDI's that go bad. I just put a BigGun in my DS because the stock one took a crap. Hope I don't have any problems because I do not have a working stock CDI to replace my BigGun with if it goes bad. Only good thing is that at least I have a year warranty on the unit and I know that ODP will stand behind what they sell. (It's no fun to make plans for a ride and then have something break, kind of takes the fun out of it.)

So with my MSD I should not use any advance to the timing until after 3000rpm or so to avoid these starter gear problems? Can anyone explain why you would want to retard the timing at higher rpms. Maybe this is just a nitrous thing as far as retarding at hi rpm. Robert

here we go again. My DS started making a horrible banging noise when trying to start it. Because of all the info here, I took out my Procomm and installed the OEM one. Now, no problems at all. Does Procomm give you your money back or just update it with more junk?

I looked at the Vortex CDI's and see:

Warranty; Vortex ignitions are warranted for replacement/repair only for 12 months from date of manufacture.

Vortex or DRI are not liable for any engine damage, user may incur

Is this an omen or just legalese? Dont need more Procomm type problems.

Nobody is going to warranty anything other then their product. Anything more would be foolish in their part. After it is purchased they have no control over what it is used for or how it is installed....

yes, PROCOM made CDI box for BIG GUN and WHITE BRO; yes, they are old news.
PROCOM is not an engineering company. it's a trading company-doing trading business with overseas. Dont' be fooled by the name 'engineering'.
PROCOM is not designing the box neither. They just have seller clone it and adjust it with 1K RPM over.
Plus, the max power or torque are not generated at max RPM. Adding 1K RPM over your engine will not give you that much of power compare to how much $$ you'll lose soon. Why bother?
