For those that have followed my adventures know that my engine swallowed a 13mm nut.

I had head and piston checked out and engine put back together.

Bike is very hard to start with ocassional back firing.

And when I do manage to get it running, it idles too high and I can't bring it down with the idle screw.

It did idle perfectly with these carb settings before swallowing the nut.

I have dual 39mm FCR's if that helps.

sounds like a vacuum leak at the intake manifold to me.

 

Where'ld the 13mm come from? Sounds like I need to make sure I tighten some things up.

Floats wouldn't be sticking in the carbs??? Slides fully shutting when no pull on the throttle?

 

The nut came from when i was installing the engine. Guess I dropped it in the engine.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif[/img][img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

I am going to doube check everything on the carb set up today, including the manifold.

 

Pulled the FCR's off the twins this morning. . .

The FCR's that have only run gas look like new. . .

The FCR's that have had alky are another story. The fuel was overflowing out the fiters when the pet-**** was open. Anyways, the float valves and seats are shot. Pulled the valves and seats out of the gas carbs and they look good so, I know what I'll be ordering up on Monday.

BTW, there are little filters inside the valve seats. If you weren't getting fuel I'ld suggest you check there but, doesn't sound like the issue.

 

Here's what I found out today.

It's definitly easier to start with the filters off the carbs.

When I removed the carbs, there was a little puddle of gas in both sides of the manifold.

I know that when i lift the slides up to undo the cable , the acc. pump shoots a little fuel, but it shouldn't be enough to leave a puddle in the manifold. At least I've never seen that before in all the times that I've taken the carbs off.

Also with the carbs off, I can get that idle down to around 2,00 rpm. but when I try to go lower it gets out of wack and the needle on the tach starts bouncing back and forth.

 

Are you sure the cams went back on right. It sounds like the carbs are just reacting to incorrect cam timing. Just my $.02 worth.

 

That's what I'm thinking.

I hope to get them checked out tomorrow.

 

OK. On the advise of W1ngnut, I rode it up and down the street.

Top end seems fine. There was occassional bogging at about 1/4 throttle.

All this was done at an idle spee of about 2,200 rpm. It will not idle lower than that.

 

Way to rich. Smaller pilots and lean out the needle. Then readjust you air screw and idle.
