Default Bombardier's fatal flaw???----interesting UPDATE

One of my 04's is a 7995. I have never head the head off of that one, but I do not believe it has any ring issues. I do not get much if any blowby or smoke to indicate any issues, and it is one of the hardest running stock DS's I have ridden

DSengineer, out of curiosity, what is the manufacture date of your 7995?

From reading the thread, it seems like the ones with the trouble are 04 Model 7995's, but with build dates in the summer or fall of 03. My 04 Baja X has a build date of 3/04, so I am hoping that the problem was ironed out by then. I, too, have had no blowby or other symptoms as of yet.

DSengineer, If your DS is a hard runner, don't worry about it. Mine was a terd from day one but had nothing to compare it too. I realized it when I put in a 00 motor as a replacement and what a difference. Also, my oil would be black right after changing it. Now it looks fine until I need to change it.

The build date on my stock 7995 is 8/2003. My other 04 running an HPR piston is also a 7995 with a 3/2004 build date. I still have piston/rings from that one sitting in a bag. I'll take it out and see what kind of shape it is in

I would be interested in knowing if all looks well with the piston and rings from your 3/04 build date Baja X, since mine came through at roughly the same time.

I pulled the piston/rings from my 3/04 "7995' out of the box and they look good. I would say that piston has less than 20hrs on it though. How many hours would you guys say your top rings are failing at?
