DS A-arms
#1
I must be a really hard rider, because I can't keep my a-arms intact. I don't hit trees or anything, just jumping. I wanted to know if anyone knew of a better set of a-arms than the Epic set that Alba sells. I can't find anyone else that makes a complete set. I am tired of re welding my stock arms, and I really don't want to trust them anymore, I have come too close to trees in midair after the arms broke.
If you have any info on who makes some good arms, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ben
Oh, and if any of you have a set of TBR arms or the like, I may be interested.

I used to have a 01 ds. Long story short, I broke the right side stock arms. I replaced all 4 with the new style bomb arms {mine were the 05 arms} I know the 03 and up ds is suposidly narrower than the 02 and older [rear axel maybe], but I didn't even have to chang my tie rod adjustment from the 01 a-arm set up, and the new style arms lowered the nose 1 or 2 inches. I would get new style bomb arms.

Thanks for the replies, that was quick!
Midnite- How much did you end up spending on the new style arms? My dealer wants $98 per ball joint, plus the arms My ball joints are just about shot, I was about to replace them, but the breakage occured before I finalized my order. Also, since it lowered your front end, what did you do to counteract that? Did you soften the preload on your rear shock? I really don't want to do that since I have my damping and preload set just right for my track and I come really close to bottoming out as it is.
Saint- Are the Armadillo arms a complete set? I broke one upper and one lower arm, so I could use both. Of course, if they are just the tops and are caster/camber adjustable, I could get some of those and some stock lowers from a newer year, that might work.
Thanks for the info,
Ben

I think they were $400 or $450 for all four. Yeah the ball joints are insanely expensive, but extreamly beefy. I pressed my ball joints out of the old arms into the new arms. I threw away the black metal tabs, because they dont work on the new arms. I didn't do any thing to counter act the front end drop. Same front spring pre load, same tie rod adjustment, same rear shock/spring settings. The drop is subtle, you notice it, then forget about it. The lower arms look similar to yfz 450 lower arms. Any way, the new arm geometry made it handle slightly better, and got rid of the squirly feeling my ds had at speed. Really a good upgrade for an older ds.

Cool, that does sound like a good idea, but I would still like some aftermarket arms. I would still like to know from bombsaint if his arms are a complete set and how much they were. I guess once I figure that out, I can make a decision. At least my bike will handle better either way!
Thanks again,
Ben

Wow, that sounds pretty good. My last question is where did you get them? I know I can find them somewhere, but just for reference.
Thanks,
Ben
Edit: Nevermind, I thought Armadillo was sold through Rocky Mountain ATV, turns out I was right. Thanks for all of the help fellas, I'll get some pics up when I'm done.

yea i see you found them. also i see that you have a 01. mine is a 00(frame pretty much thats all) but the jitters and darty steering that comes with high speeds on the 00 and 01's are eliminated with the new arms. good luck
