Default STAGE KITS

Hi BioWare,

If you go to the Ron Woods or On Dunes web pages they describe all the various parts and benefits.
If I recall
Stage 1 is Carb+Intake+Exhaust
Stage 2 is Porting if the head with bigger valves + all of Stage 1
Stage 3 is Larger piston, cylinder + higher compression + Stage 2 & Stage 1 kits.

The Stage 3 kit providing the greatest performance boost but also greatest impact to the wallet.
I know initially you want to do everything you can externally then if not happy break the seal and crack the case.
This seems to provide the most bang for the buck.
The Turbo kits on a realtively stock DS look to be the trend lately but again how fast do you want to spend your money ....er go ?

Well, let me just add a few points here ...

Typically Stage I consists of the following ...

- Larger Carb, Boot, Intake Manifold, Cable, Exhaust, Aftermarket CDI (rev box)

Stage II consists of all the stage I components, plus ...

- Cams, valves springs, piston

Stage III consists of all of the Stage I and II plus ...

- Head porting & larger valves (race head)

Some people go to stage II and just do the head porting, so I guess that would be stage 2.5?? Anyways, in my book, you dont nessesarily have to choose any one manufacturers products, because the concept holds through. For example, you could get Web Cams instead of Ron Wood cams.

After Stage III, some folks move on to bigger bore or Nitrous. Jed has had a lot of luck with Nitrous without going to the expense of a big bore. But each person has different needs. Cam choice is going to depend a lot on the type of riding you do.

You will notice a big difference with stage 1 kit.

At 1 time it was the best bang for the buck, well the only bang for the buck..now there are a lot of differnt options to get power, and may not cost as much as a stage 1 kit.

If you are going with a stage one set up, I would consider the following ....

A good carb - If you choose the TM45, make sure and install the accel pump. This will give you the low end with that carb.

Exhaust - The Ron Wood Racing pipe is not a good low RPM exhaust. You'll do better with the Big Gun EVO or an End Cap or something along those lines. There are lots of tips/end caps out there, some with spark arrestors. If you have restrictions for trail riding and you need a sparky, then consider a spark arrested end cap or a big gun EVO X. Most of the other pipes are mid/top or all top end. This isnt as good in trails.

CDI - Most of the CDI out there put the power on top. You might consider something like a Vortex (dont know if any others that I can think of) that also can put the power down low.
