Thanks for the clarification. I plan to do your snorkel mod this weekend (I think I will just buy the sump pump hose). I won't really know how good its running until the first weekend in November, when I go to the Dumont Dunes. After that, I will let you know how it ran. One more question. After I modify the snorkels, which I assume will flow a little more air, is it likely that I will need to go up one main jet size (From a 170 Mikuni to a 172.5 or maybe 175)?

Are you running the stock needle or DJ?

If running stock:
Needle set to 5th from top position - Needle set highest up.
Main jet at 170 Mikuni is a good place to start.
With the slide totally rising to top, you may have to jet down.
What temperature will you be riding in? If above 80 you may be rich.

Glad you tried the mods and they are working for you.
Hope to have some more mods shortly.
My son went to Wyoming and took out a arm in the mountains, snow and
narrow trails in the mountains are hard on stock a-arms.
Hope to be back testing shortly.
With my proto jet kit, I want to do testing to see if I can run with the lid off.
I am going to use a over-rev silencer, in the past I used just an endcap.
Endcap and lid off would not rev well in upper mid and top end.
Thanks for responding, with over 500 lookers, it is good that a few have tried the mods
and have found better performance.

Yes, but here are my recommendations:

Cut stock air inlet tubes 9 inches off - Total length now is 12 inches
Leave needle in 4th groove
165 main
Slide spring should be 3 1/8" length, if over 3 1/4 cut.
Drill 2 extra vacuum ports to 1/16"
Drill original 2 ports to 1/8"

That's why I am the Oldman, I sometimes forget to state that my rec's were exceptions to Steps 1-5.
Is the reason you run the stock silencer, is because you are trying to sell your machine?

OMR
Reading this post lead me to install DJ needle and jets. I am at 5000ft. so I put the clip at 3rd spot as recommended and installed the DJ185. I am running the Mr. HP end cap and an open airbox. It ran better before I did this mod with the Stock 165 main and stock needle at the 4th clip from top. It seems strong in low and mid but at high revs it pops and power drops off. I checked the plug after the ride and it was dry and tip was white. Any suggestions?
Thanx

I,ve decided to keep it and go back to stock and quiet . Wisc is starting to crack down on aftermarket exhaust . so I'll be in stealth mode for trail riding from now on . I still have an e-series slip on , but I was told it makes no more power than stock up top , just increases low+ mid . I can allways slap that thing on when we go to a private owned riding park tho . As soon as I get free time I'll try those mods . Thanks for the good info !
