Hey guys i'm going away for a weekend trip and i took my quad out for a spin in some trails and fields to make sure she was running good. Well everything went well but my chain went super loose where it almost wasn't rideable, i only noticed it because i heard the loud slapping. Now this is the second time in a row this has happened. When i went to tighten the chain i checked to make sure the bolts were still tight and they were. So what else can i do? i really don't want to have to stop on the trail every ten minutes to re tighten my chain this weekend. So help me!

Well, I would make sure the chain isnt stretching. You might want to sit on the bike while someone else tightens the chain and see if that helps. JMO!

Have you redone your bearings? If you have did you get any grease on the outside of the carrier
or inside the swingarm. This will allow your carrier to turn.Did you torq your bolts or just tighten them up.When i just tightened them up it would still loosen.

choose thats how i do tighten my chain, addict no i never torqued the nuts down but i didn't them pritty tight, i'll torque them down tom morning, its 43lbf right? At least that what my manual says. Is this really the only possibilites??

those are about the possibilities... it's probibly when you apply large amounts of torque to your chain (hammering it, jumping etc) it is putting enought torque on your carrier that it is spinning that bit. make sure the axle lock nut is torqued, and the carrier bolts are tight.... 43 lbs is recommended in your manual, but don't do it. I assume yours is the older style with 2 bolts. Mine is the 4 bolt style, and torque is recommended 32 lbs/ft, I got to about 27 and snapped a bolt off, so be careful. The recommended torques are for the initial tightening of the bolt, after that it stretches and loses strength. let us know

I had this same problem and it turned out to be the rear wheel bearings.I couldn't feel any vibration when riding but apparently there was enough to cause the carrier to rotate in the housing.Yes my bolts were TIGHT. Good luck.

The bearings verywell can and obviously have done it. It makes sense. The carrier bolts simply clamp the swingarm tight around the carrier preventing it from turning, but if your bearings are worn, and catch/bind just the right way wvwry now and then, it could overcome the strength of the "clamping effect" and still turn the carrier thus loosening your chain.
Worth looking into if you still can't find the solution.

i'll answer when i get back tom night right now i just checked and double checked everything and keeping my fingers crossed that it stays tight. i was way to busy today to take it out to the farm to test it out. I hope its not my bearings but i have a feeling it is, i've just been putting it off and off to change them so maybe it has finally caught up to me. so thanks everyone for all the quick help.
