Default powerdcoating exhaust?

well i need to get my top gun pipe coated so i called my local powder coater and he said they don't do ceramic coating but they can powdercoat it and it would be fine. So i said asked him if it would hold up to the heat. They said yes they just use a different powder. So does this sound possible to you guys? I have really no clue with that stuff. If it doesn't sound like it will hold up to you guys then i'll just send it to jethot.

Thanks
Phil

I would'nt think twice...send it to Jet-Hot. They will get it done.

Normal polyester powders volitize at about 6-700 degrees F.... therefore would burn up and flake off your exhaust, but there are high temp powders, usually blacks and such, so not much selection, but they are much more resistant to higher temperatures. for your midpipe and canister, you should be fine, the headers, I'm not 100% sure about as they do get red hot, and there ain't much that can withstand that....

Interesting...

I've been told by powdercoaters all over that it CAN NOT withstand HEADER heat...
However, it can withstand the heat when it's on a silencer/end pipe.

I just used the same method (or very similar to the Jet Hot)... but it's black.

You can call Electro Tech Coatings in San Marcos, CA
They not only do Alum. coating... but powdercoating.
They won't steer ya wrong.

TheChosenOne is right on the money. The car on my profile has power coated headers. Like TheChosenOne has said, this is not your normal power coating that you would put on a frame. These are special coatings with heat reflective abilities. When done inside and out it will hold the heat in the header for more power.
I personally like the look of the Jet-Hot silver myself, though.

The headers on my camaro are done in powder coat black and they have held up perfectly (3 yrs). This is a 14:1 540ci BBC so it creates some heat and they have not flaked or discolored at all.

well thanks for all the replies guys, i got a price from jet hot yesterday and they said they would do the whole exhaust for $120. that sounds pritty resonable to me. but i haven't made my mind up yet. I haven't delt with this powdercoatering place yet so i'm a lil hesitant. but i'll let you know what i do and have pics up soon as i get it done. thanks again

Phil
