Hey guys I did a search and read a lot of posts on the DS battery going dead. I have a 2004 Baja X. The stock battery went after about 10 months so I decided to get the Odyssey pc545 battery. I've only had it in my quad for two months. Went out for a ride on Sunday for about two hours, shut the bike off and it would not start back up. Solenoid was clicking telling me the battery was dead. I got it popped started but it wasn't running correctly. Every time I got around 4000 rpm the engine would break up. I read this seems to happen when the battery is dead. I brought it home and charged it first for 2 amps over night and still dead. The next day I charged it for 2 hrs at 10 amps and still when I put it back in the Quad clicking. I then took it to my local cycle shop and they said it was defective. I bought it off ebay from odyssey world but they no longer have any batteries up for sale and are not answering my emails. I went through another company and bought the same battery which I should receive tomorrow. I think that maybe the stock original battery might have been ok or some how the bike screwed it up along with the new Odyssey battery. I hate to put another battery in and have that one go in two months. Is there anyone else out there that had this same problem and what did they do to correct it. Rectifier maybe or something other. I also am running the Ron woods cdi. This is a common problem because its in this months issue of dirt wheels pg 228.

i bought the same bat. and it to went dead after not riding for 3 months i tried to charge it but it would not hold a charge took it back to battery plus and they gave me a new one i also got a battery tender from them at the time. i plug in my battery after every ride and leave it on tel the next time i have had no probs with this system the plug can be hard wired to your battery and it has a cap to keep out dirt or mud so as not to short the battery

there is something wrong if your new suncoast battery is dying after 3 months! I have had mine for over a year, and have not had to charge it once. there has got to be a problem with your electical system
during the hot summer months in Bakersfield, the stock battery would just crap out. this last summer was the first summer I have had the orange one, and it fired up every time!!! one of the best after market purchases I have made!

I still lean toward something wrong with the charging system. With the bike running, revv it up and check the output voltage with a volt meter. It should not exceed 15 volts. A tell-tale sign of this is headlamps that look to "white" compared with another bike (assuming same bulbs). Another is always burning out the tail lamp bulb. This is an easy test before you replace the battery and fry another one. Be sure to post your findings.

Well I never burnt out a taillight and I have used a motorcycle trickle charges at 2 amps and I still have this problem. I just purchased this charger. http://www.donrowe.com/battery_charg...ychargers.html
as they do recommend using a 6 to 8 amp charger. Also this charger is for the AGM battery.
When I get my new battery I will run some test and definitely let you guys know what I find.
Thanks, D

Ok, in another post, I mentioned that I just lost a brand new Battery.
I just got a new one. The Pig fired up right away.
I HAVE burnt out many tail lights.
I will go by a meter. (hopefully I can learn how to use it).
What are the most important things to check for?

Attach the volt meter to the battery terminals, red + black to -. Rev the bike up high 5-7 K RPM momentarily, watch the volt meter. It should never go above 15 volts. If it does, check/replace your regulator, it's overcharging. This will cook a battery fast, especially these little ones! Mine stays between 13.5 and 14.0 volts, depending on RPM.
