Traxter hard starting
#1
I have had a 2000 Traxter since new...It's always been a hard starter when sitting a couple weeks ...or if add cold weather to the "sitting" equation, it's nearly impossible to start. I typically will then have to pull plugs and put a heater on the engine to get it running. Calls to dealers over the years have not helped. I remember one on the ATV mags several years back saying that this was Traxter owners' number one complaint... Has anyone had experience in helping/alleviating this problem...besides this problem, the ATV has been a great utility type ATV.

I did get a hold of a Dealer who found Bombardier Service Bulletin No. 2004-6 entitled "Optional Upgrades for Easier Starting in Cold Weather" dated December 1, 2003. The bulletin recommends upgraded battery, Iridium spark plugs (more resistant to fouling), larger starting jet for carburetor, a primer kit, and a carburetor heater for idle during cold weather. I've called several dealers with none being aware of performing this bulletin.
Anyone have any experience with the "upgrades" recommended? It would appear that the "more resistant to fouling" Iridium plug contradicts the "larger starting jet" recommendation.....

I have incountered this on 2 different 00 Traxters. Tried a lot of different ideas, dealer recomended installing a primer. When we closely inspected fuel line to carb (clear hose) we noticed air bubles, upon closer inspection the factory installed clamp at the carb was loose. We bled off all the air installed new clamp.....problem solved. Also I switch to Bomb 0-40 synthetic oil for winter months plowing snow etc...

Hopefully this qualifies as a "better-late-than-never" response.....wanted to let all "hard starting" traxter folks that the primer did indeed fix the problem. I was able to start the machine in all sorts of cold weather last year when I was plowing the snow.
