plastic gears in engine??

Just out of curiousity what are those 2 plastic gears behind the clutch basket? When I was installing my new 60% springs I noticed these gears in there and was wondering why brp used plastic instead of steel, and what do these do? Thanks, RUSS

plastic gears in engine??

they run the two oil pumps and they hold up just fine.
