chirochris, did you take your airbox lid off. What kind of end cap did you use?

Default 2004 DS 650 Baja X performance help!!

kept it on for a few reasons..one being i ride alot of trails with dirt and dust and acasional mud..the 2nd is most on the forum will tell you to run with it on with stock carb mods....i bought a kit from on dunes..very cheap..it was cap, filter and jet. i see you want to maintain your qiuetness, it made me louder which i like..there maybe an endcap or slip on that will be quiet but to increase gains you need to let her flow..i would contact mrhp..he has all the goods and can direct you, he also has endcaps

Default 2004 DS 650 Baja X performance help!!

Hi sabmag77,
Congrats on the bike. I also have the O4 BajaX model (Personaly I think is the best year / model) I also ran into the same situation.
The bike has the power you can feel it but it just seems to cut out too soon right when it starts pulling hard I just don't know why BRP can't open her up and just sell it out of the box er crate with say 50 lbs of torque ? which really gets you up over the big dunes.
Any how I made the following mods to my 04 in this order and found modest gains each time execpt the carb and intake really did the job !
K&N Filter with open end exhaust ... better flowing IN and better flowing OUT !
Cut off the TOP of the air box --> ultimately removed it. First and best gain ... low buck but I had to re-tune.
CDI ... helped make the bike snappier with more on mid to top end.
TM45 Carb w/ Ported Intake and Full RW exhaust. I guess the Alba exhaust wasen't all that !
The bike runs really well now.... Ya it cost a few bucks but I primarily ride the Dunes and wide open fire trails / roads and I felt it was worth every penny.
The Mods on the DS really do open her up .... to the monster she is.
I am already saving up for the 730 kit : - ) ... More more more ...
My friends call my DS the "Anomaly" because its BIG & FAST they just don't get it.
My friends 686 Raptor which is 100 lighter with higher compression piston and upgraded head work are pretty neck and neck ... just depends on who gets the whole shot first and rider skills !!!!
The DS is still a heavy bike that's not going to change but she gets out of her own way....

ilivsd,

the airbox lid off is a good idea but only if your area calls for it..it would do me more harm than good..i am way to dusty and muddy for the lid off...i do agree with all your mods...next for me will be the ported intake and the vortx cdi over winter...
