DOes anyone know what the issues with the 2000 model year timing tensioners. The dealer told me that mine needed replaced due to chain slapping and that there were known issues with these. Apperantly the tensioner messed up and made my cahin too tight, stretching the chain. In noticed this because my quad got hard to start and thought the valves needed adjusted. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the too tight thing but I have 3 DSs and I have replaced 4 of those things. They stick all the way closed so the chain is just rattling around in there. and I can't un-jam them.?? I heard there is a manual adjuster from HPR OR TVI?? Has anyone used one of these??

I have a 2000 DS and my Cam Chain Tensioner failed on my last trip in the completely closed position. It makes a lot of racket at idle.
I removed it and could not get it to open and slide correctly.
A new OEM is on order.
Does anyone know if an after-market one exists?

HOw does your dealer know your chain is STRECHED?? Ron Woods sells a Manual tensioner.
Never heard of a tensioner sticking OPEN and cause what your dealers is saying. Make sure he is not trying to get in your pocket with a bunch of Labor charges!!
good luck.

According to him, when he got inside the motor the timing arrows would not line up. The timing chain seemed way too tight, so when he pulled the tensioner it was messed up. He then tried to clean it but to no avail. when he showed it to me it looked and felt llike it may be slightly egg shaped, it would go in but if you rotated it a little then it would not go in. after getting it in he said that he was afraid that it could have streched a little, hs also said that the "blades" were bent or chewed up. I told him if there was any concern or risk of a faulty part go ahead and replace it to avoid future problems, and he replied that if it were his he would replace the parts. After he inspected it he said that i was lucky that the chain didnt break and cause major trouble. Just wondered if anyone else has had or heard of this. By the way I have the worse luck of anyone ..Thanks
