Default Friend wants a 2 seater!!!

I figure I would come to the bomb guys because you all would know about bombs!! I have a friend that is joined at the hip with his girlfriend!! Anyways he is wanting the 2 seater so they can ride together. My questions are for him, 1) Does the length of the bike create any problems? 2) Do the pay to ride places allow 2 people to ride like that because alot of the rules you look at say "One person per machine" 3) Any other things to suggest or consider before taking the leap? I told him if he knew anything he would buy a Grizzly!!! Just kidding as long as your riding thats the main thing!! Take it easy everyone & thanks for any info. MIKE

On the 2up question, I personally called BLM to find out this very thing back when I was looking into getting a QuestMax 650. They weren't even aware that there was such a thing as a two up ATV. They did, however, call me back a few days later and said after some research and a call to Sacramento that indeed you could ride two up if the bike was so designed. And that the Rangers would be made privy to such information.
That's here in Cali, the infringement on your rights capital of the world. I'm sure if you can do it here you can do it anwhere else!

the wheelbase is like 8" longer and that indeed is gonna make the turning radius wider. you won't be doing as fast paced sport riding as you could on a regular machine, but the siteseeing advantages are certainly a plus for couples riding. And the rear seat is removable and has a cargo rack extension that takes its place for increased rack capacity when loading up for camping or hunting. and the longer wheel base keeps the front down better when climbing steep grades or creekbanks, be it while carrying extra gear or an extra person.

in my opinion, a 2-up machine is for mild cruising, work, camping, or hunting. and if a person is buying a quad simply for the joy and thrill of riding for fun and thrashing trails, you're better off buying 2 single seaters rather than a 2-up. if his ol' lady isn't into riding enough to want her own quad, then she would soon tire of being passenger anyway, and then he'd be stuck alone with a 2-up that aint giving him the thrill his buddies are getting. if he gets two singles, and she doesn't dig it, he can sell hers and still be fine with his own.

Have you ever tried a 800 max? I have no regrets buying the max over the standard. Those extra 8 inches make it a very stable and predictable machine and it can do things that would get pretty hairy with the standard version. The funny thing is that the 800 max can trounce most sport quads in places you wouldn't expect. It is insanely fast on tight trails and it's a blast drifting the rear out on high speed turns. It can climb like a mountain goat on steroids. It can eat up rough trails that a sports quads can't even roll over. It loves dirt, deep sand, rocks, hills and mud. The sport quads might handle whoops and jumps better but they can't even get to half of the mountain I ride on. The max is a very capable machine that can do just about anything and everything and it's a blast to ride fasssst. At least try the max before you jump to conclusions.

I've been looking at the 2-seaters for about 3-4 years now and never liked ANY of them until the new 800 BRP Max come out. I now own one with 300 miles on it.

My wife would rather ride with me than ride her own ATV, and being able to remove the passengers seat and install the cargo box in its place is a huge plus for me. The Max is only 8 inches longer and 50 lbs heavier than its 800cc single seat brother.I like this.

Power and handling is great. I plow snow with mine, haul a trailor load of firewood, and ride for pleasure.

hey I'm just sharing my opinions and not jumping on anybody elses opinions, LilMikey's buddy can sort it all out and decide what suits him based on all of our input.
I'm not jumping to conclusions, I love the Maxes, both the 400 and the 800 and if I was in the market for a new utility it would be one of these no doubt. But the fact is a longer wheel base cannot slide as easy or whip turns as fast as a shorter machine and it will also have to be more prone to high centering on steep crowns and pointed crests and this I know from experience, it holds true on any class machine be it sport or utility or car or bike. There is a reason Mike Penland is running the short version in GNCC instead of the longer Max. If all I'm doing is play riding I'll take the short one, but if I want multi purpose then the Max is the ticket.
Its a $9K investment that deserves input from all sides of the fence to consider, yours is just as valuable as mine, no more, no less.
The question is, what kind of riding will be done by Mikey's buddy on this machine.

I agree with everything HIGHTOWER said with regards to the 2-seater Max,its all true IMO.

For the riding style of a 48 yr old man like ME,it fits me to a tee.

Others may like the regular version better for their riding style.

For what your friend wants, i would definitely recommend a 2 up. I bought mine for the same reason. The only downfall is that now my girlfriend is a pretty good rider on her own, so she wants a quad all to herself. The Outty Max is very stable, both with and without a rider. It's the best hillclimber I've ever been on. The turning radius is affected by the longer wheelbase, but its really not that bad. Keep in mind I ride mostly in Ohio and PA, where tight wooded trails are the norm. When you don't have a passenger, you can ride a lot more aggressively and you dont even notice the extra length.

The rules for riding in Ohio's state forests say that no vehicle shall ride with more passengers than it was designed to carry. In this case, mine was designed to carry 2. One time, a Ranger at Perry did stop me to check it out, then when he saw it was a 2-up, he turned right back around. Before I left, he asked me if I'd mind taking the time to tell him what manufacturers make 2-ups so he'd be a little better informed on what's out there. I told him, then 5 minutes later he stopped a couple riding double on a honda rancher.

If you take the 2nd seat off the Max it's 35 pounds heavier then the standard model. The 2nds seat weighs in at 15 pounds.
