Default Nikasil Coating?

How long is the Nikasil Coating on the DS is supposed to last, on 2 strokes I was told only 100 hours, and some fuels disolve teh coating, having a sulfer base.

Default Nikasil Coating?

after 100 hours on my DS motor the crosshatching of the factory hone was still just as apparent as when it was new. it is super hard stuff, seriously harder than sleeves could ever think about being. fuels dissolve it? I can't imagine that. there's guys on here running the funniest fuels out there on their ds's - even nitro meth.

and the advantages go beyond its hardness - the sleeveless aluminum cylinder can dissipate heat to the coolant faster.

I don't know who told you that but they are seriously mistaken. I worked with aircraft cylinders for many years, and some were chrome plated. The ones that weren't we would have to screw with. The ones that were, we would re-ring and off they would go; time and time again.
I have read that Nikasil is a better coating than chrome. If so, we topped our cylinders at 1,500 hours. I never did see a bad chrome cylinder. Lots of worn steel cylinders, but never a bad plated one.
In short, it's good stuff.
