any chance rain could cause this?
many of you know i have another electrical problem...drove my ds onto the trailer perfectly no problems..drove 2 hrs in the rain got to the spot and it wouldnt start...click,click...
kept trying and nothing..sometimes it would crank then click,click..loaded it up drove home and jumped it , started right up but the tach light was off, hit the low beams tach light came on, hi beams off again...also the fan would run fast, low beams fan slow, hi beams fan very slow...
my history...changed battery to sun 545 and new reg about six months ago...cause of similiar problems, but last time it only ran with lights on and real bad
could rain have done this?

Sounds like you have short circuits that could be caused by the moisture (rain). Does it do any of this when it has been dry for a while? I would check any plug connectors or switches that may trap moisture. You could also look for any places where the wiring harness may have been overheated or chaffed (damaged insulation between wires in the harness).
If you have a wiring schematic available, you could look for a grounding point that may not be sound. Intermittent electronic gremlins are the worst!

Chris,
I just read the other thread, so pardon the ignorance above. The advice of the other guys is good. Because you have already fried regulators tells me that there are short(s) somewhere that are working the charging system too hard. Fortunately, the regulator gives up before the stator. Locating one like this is a process of deduction and elimination. If you get a schematic, you can isolate one system at a time until you flush out the rascal.
