They also trail very well, like I said in an earlier post I have been passed by (or yielded to)quite a few bikes and only 1 atv, that was a pumped up banshee that smelled real pretty when it passed. I'm saying this to shed some light on the ds650's ability to trail ride. In tight or wide trails I rarely have to shift below 3rd gear, The torque of this monster rules. I have no problems breaking hard into a tight corner, sliding the azz end around and pulling the front end up with ease blasting out of the corner all in third gear. Or when we go with groups of family I can hang in the back and putter in first and second with no problems. Its nice to ride all day fast or slow and not be beat all to heck.

 

am 5'9 and 225 and at the end of a day of racing on a track i am beat to $hit..if your looking to race on a track this is not the one...if you want a dune and hill quad this is your perfect ride its a comfy, dependable bada$$ machine ..

Definately agree with this as well. We have a pretty good track up in Mammoth Bar and 3 laps at a time is my limit before I have to recoup, this is where you probably notice the extra lbs. the most.

 

just an update...

first of all i'd like to say thanks again for all the help. you guys have been great and not once did i receive the verbal lashing that i was expecting.

my friend did a complete 180 and ended up getting an 06 yfz450. he drove his sisters Z400 and liked how tail happy it was so he decided on going one step further. from what i've read/been told, the yfz is a hair quicker stock vs stock and handles a little better as well but has a rougher ride and is much more peaky in the power delivery. regardless, i guess i'll be playing catch up when we go riding tomorrow! his girlfriend decided on the raptor 350 after getting a chance to ride one last weekend. right now i have 4 brand new quads in my garage and i'm contantly looking for excuses to go outside and look at them. tomorrow should be fun. As long as everybody gets to ride, well thats the best part. Doesn't really matter what your riding, anything is better than watching. =]

 

That is exactly why I only go so far to reccommend anything to anyone. You go out of your way to get info for someone and they throw it all away. However, it makes for some good laughes next time your out and he complains about his ride. Oh my back!!!! Oh my ***!!!! The Pain!!!! I got a buddy who got a Z400 and all he does is complain about how hard the ride is and how he hates to shoot the hill because he never wins. I told him to get a DS.... but no.... Then another friend got a Predator......it starts falling apart! I told him to get a DS.....but no.....

Hey RaptorRandy27, next time you and your buddy are out and he says even one thing.......just make sure to smile and just nod "should of got a raptor or DS".
