I would like to know if it is alright for a header pipe on a 2000 DS650 to glow red after a short ride. If it is not could you help me too fix it. Thank you

Sounds like you may have a lean condition. It has happened to many DS650s I haveseen.

My trinity pipe did the same thing. especially sitting there at idle. I know it wasn't too lean, but it can also happen from being rich, as unburnt fuel continues to burn while enroute through the head pipes. If it isn't extremeky red glow, and if you feel confident with the jetting being correct, then you should be fine. especially with the Trinity.

BTW how do you like yours? Do you feel noticable gains? can you compare to other pipes? I think my trinity was the weakest of my 3, the other 2 being a yoshi and an HMF, both slip-ons. Very nice pipe though....

What position is your needle in? 4th or 5th?

I think the pipe is way loud. I had a stock one before the trinity has more off the bottem but its loud. I do not know what position the needle is in or were it should be for that matter I will look though. Well thanks again

I would recommend the needle in the 4th groove.
5th is good for drags but will be alittle rich unless you are running
a cdi with more aggressive advance.
If you have the lidoff, you may need to run a mainjet around 190.
I am referring to mikuni jets.

I run the yoshimura rs3 pipe and have the same problem...even did with my modified stock exhaust. My headers were glowing bright red so i thought i was lean since i was running a stock 165 with open endcap so i rejeted to a 172.5 main mikuni and found the redness did not go away although i did gain some more power...i then got my yoshimura exhaust and went to a 177.5 main (needle 4th clip, air screw 3.5 turns) with the airbox lid on and a k and n in the box...she still glows completely orange at night so i think its just something with certain headers. If you think it is because you are lean throw your airbox lid back on to richen her out and then see if it still glows...then you will no if its because you are to lean or not....but i think its just that some headers that will glow no matter what because of the thickness of the pipe.

You are correct on that stainless steel will glow even if jetting is spot on.

My jetting was 190 main, lid off, needle in the 4th, air screw 3.5 turns out, and i also had the shorter spring and extra holes drilled in the slide. Throttle response was great, sound was awsome, just silicone the groove in the endcap to remove the chirping. It just didn't feel like the power was there...

And dunerider, you have the same pipe I have. Working good for ya?
