THIS MAY SOUND CRAZY BUT FOR SOME ODD REASON MY 2000 DS 650 WILL NOT RUN RIGHT AT NIGHT. WHAT HAPPENS IS DURING THE DAY IT RUNS FINE. AS SOON AS EVENING STARTS TO COME THE BIKE WILL EVENTUALLY START TO CUT OUT. AFTER MULITPLE ATTEMPTS TO GET IT GOING, THE BIKE STILL WILL NOT START. I HAVE TO LET THE BIKE SIT BETWEEN 5-15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL EVENTUALLY START AT NIGHT, IT WILL RUN A SHORT WHILE, STALL, AND THEN EVENTUALLY DO THE SAME THING. WHEN THE BIKE IS RUNNING IT WILL IDLE FINE, BUT AS SOON AS YOU HIT THE TRAILS, IT DIES. I HAVE INSTALLED A 170 JET AND THE ENTIRE BIKE IS STOCK. I HAVE TAKEN THE CARB APART SEVERAL TIMES AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A CARB PROBLEM, OR IS IT?

I HAVE TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CERTIFIED MECHANICS CAN'T EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING. THEY HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM.

HAS THIS PROBLEM EVER HAPPENDED TO ANYONE ELSE? HOW CAN I REPAIR THIS? COULD IT BE THE REGULATOR/RECTIFIER OR THE CDI? THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE TESTED THE COILS AND CDI. BOTH ARE WORKING FINE.

THE BIKE WILL IDLE AT NIGHT, BUT WHEN YOU TAKE IT FOR A RIDE AND GET ON IT, THATS WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS. IT IS ABSOLUTLEY DRIVING ME AND MY FRIENDS CRAZY TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE ALL STUMPED!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Does this only happen when the lights are turned on? If so then it might be your rectifier. Just a thought.

Maybe your stator is going bad. When it heats up, especially at night when your pulling more current with lights, it quits working, cools down and is good again until she heats back up. Just a guess.

 

gas tank vent hose plugged or pinched?

 

first of all run it during the day but turn your lights on to see if it does it. then that will narrow it down . try that then repost.

Sounds like ignition module or coil is drawing dampness from acrack........I had the same problem once on a kaw.200 ....it took me over a year to figure it out..

 

I ran the machine all day today with the lights on and the problem didnt occur. When I took it to the dealership for service, they couldn't find anything wrong. It is hard for them to find out what is wrong since they dont actually take the bike for a ride, granted it only happens when I am riding.

I have checked the gas tank vent line and the cap, and that doesn't seem to be the problem. The valves were adjusted too when the machine was serviced. Does a rectifer, regualtor or rev box cause symptoms such as these?

If it happended to be the stator that was defective, how come it hasn't happended during the day? Today, I ran the bike all day long with the lights on and the problem didn't occur. When night falls, thats when the bike sputters and quits. Sometimes during the night it will run normal between 5-30 minutes, but those occurences are far and few between the real problem.

Does anyone recommend taking it to another certified Bombardier dealership? It kills me to fork out another 75 bucks to have another bonehead tell me he doen't know whats wrong with it either, but if he can, then it would be worth it.
