Twist throttle?
#1
I need opinions from anyone that has used. What did you think, and was it very hard on your wrist? We had one on a Banshee years ago, but due to the need to constantly rev it was not a good thing. The DS does not have that issue, so I am thinking good way to go.
BTW for those of you that know us well, this part is not for me

The first mod I made when I got my DS was a twist throttle. I have a twist throttle on my Banshee. All the quads I ever owned in the past had a twist throtle. All my dirtbikes had a twist throttle. All my street bikes had a twist throttle. The Police Bike I rode at work for the past 7.5 years had a twist throttle.
I like a twist throttle. I can get and maintain a good grip on the handlebars with both hands with a twist throttle.
I have not put a twist throttle on my Outlander though. I haven't had any thumb fatigue riding the 4 X 4 qad, but we usually ride slower more technical trails and stop a lot to wait for the next guy.
By the way, if I haven't mentioned it, I LIKE A TWIST THROTTLE!!!

Alright, to add a question to this. Motion Pro makes one for the DS. It says it is for the Stock carb, but does anyone know if the same one works for the TM45. According to On dunes website, it looks like that is the case, and I would really like to buy from them. However I can beat the overall price by $20, and that is huge for me right now.

I like riding with either, but.........if you need to be off the gas in a fraction of a second the thumb throttle is the way to go.
If you intend on going to a upgraded carb, then thumb throttle gets pretty stiff

Well now just a minute! There are some guys on here that swear that with the right spring mods a TM45 can provide a thumb pull equal to stock.
Dragon,
One of my riding buddies had a motion pro twist throttle. It had teflon internals that wore out very quickly and had to be replaced. I wouldn't run a twist throttle on the sand because I transition from sitting to standing all the time and I have trouble maintaining smooth throttle application. lol, about killed myself landing a jump when I was not used to the twist.
If you decide to go that route, make sure you get a good assembly. Motion pro might make a better one than the one he had. I just was not impressed with his.

A twist throttle might be really good for him. The way he rides and the places he goes, it will suit him really good, IMHO. I wish he would put a swingarm on that pig of his. Everytime I saw him catch air with the front end coming over a rise or climbing a steep hill my heart skipped a beat! He will need to be especially careful about that when he mounts his twist throttle.

I have been using a twist with my TM45 for over a year now and luv it.
I had the springs "fixed" so it was not really an issue with stiffness when I was using the thumb throttle, but I prefer the twist for sure!
Throttle control is just fine and I feel more secure on the bars with a full grip, never had a problem racing through the woops or anything like that.
I would recommend one especially if your dad is used to them from other bikes in the past.

I wanted a turbo throttle for my old ds, what I wound up with was the cr pro or cr comp, don't remember which. It was a quicker turning twisty compared to the turbo throttles on my shees {the cr and turbo throttles are both made by motion pro}. I think your dad would be better off with the turbo throttle than the cr type. Anyway I still liked it better than the thumb set up on my old ds.
