Removing the Magneto
#1
Hey: Guys
I started to replace my shift forks today and ran into a problem. I have Eagle Collecter's instructions (which are very good).
I had the TDC bolt in place and the head and cylinder removed. I bought the special tool from Bomb, but still could not get the Magneto off. I used an impact and tried 3 times. The first 2 times I used my brand new Craftsman impact and it would not move. I borrowed a buddy snap-on impact and proceded to strip out the remover tool.
Should I be having this much trouble getting the magneto off ????
As well, even though I had the tdc bolt in place the crank still turned a little bit - Any ideas ???
Thanks in adavnce !!!

Thanks for the replies guys
Is it safe to use heat on the magneto ??? I have a tourch but never thought of using it.
Budtbaar I run about a 150 psi of air pressure in the shop at all times. The fricken thing still would not come off. You are right the Bomb removal tool is weak. Let me know where I can get an aftermarket one, I have my credit card out.
I really wanted to get this thing apart this weekend, so I could send the tranny gears to Mr. HP to have them cut. I am hoping to have the tranny gears re-installed and the 730 kit in by the first part of April to do some testing and tuning and be out in the mountains as soon as the snow melts.

just removed mine last week. Yes you need the tool. yes you will need heat.. Not only does the nut have red loctite on it but also the mag on the shaft has loctite on it also. I removed the retaining nut and then used a propane torch on the shaft area for about 90 sec. once that was finished. It came right off. no prob.

UPDATE !!!
I finally got that sucker off holy - _ _ _ _ it was tight, no way that was ever going to fall off. I wrecked the bomb puller 3 times. After the first time - I just drilled out the treads and welded a nut on top of it, and did that 2 more times.
Today I used the torch for about 3 minutes and it came off with ease.
Thanks to every body for the tips and help !!!
Hope I remember how the Tranny goes back together - there are a lot of parts in there and it will be apart for a couple of weeks before I get the gears back from HPR.
Thanks again Guys
