I wish I was going... I'd have to show you all what a second gear run looks like.

I have been doing some calcs and here is where I expect to be. If I am running 22"s, I hope to pull 55 mph at 7200 in 3rd. If I have the power to pull 25"s, to 7000 rpm in 3rd, I might hit 62 but I am not convinced I will be able to run my current gears and still pull 25"s.

From what I have heard that hill is pretty steep........ The descriptions I have gotten sound like Chokecherry except twice as tall. If it is that steep, I will already be scared if I can pull 55 mph.

Nut, are you talking all motor, or some NO2.. There is no way that hill can be as steep as Choke Cherry St. A Friends of ours were down there with their Twin Peaks 700, and road the whole hill, so the big hill's grade isn't anywhere close to Choke Cherry, the same bike couldn't make it more than 1/3rd up at ID. Is there going to be a calibrated gun there...?

I was definitely assuming with a 20 - 25 shot of Noss. I do think I will get a bit of overrev but I will be losing some speed due to slippage. 60 mph feels like you are ripping on the flats. On a steep hill I will be amazed if 95 hp will pull 400 lbs of bike and 180 lbs of rider up that hill at 60 mph. I think anyone who uses a radar gun will tell you how embarrassing it is to see your own speed on one and we always overestimate how fast we are really going.

I stand to learn something new here. Thanks for the perspective! I hope you are right.

I agree fryguy the valley is nowhere near the steepness of choke,
the face is pretty close to it but twice the distance,
and the fingers are like the steep grade on to the right of choke cherry except twice the height and more people refuse to attempt the fingers than climb them.

the sand is different too, its not quite the same climbing a utah hill vs. a st. anthony hill of equal proportions IMO.

Hightower, I am confused by your post. First you said it was nowhere near the steepness of choke, then you said the face was pretty close to the steepness but twice the distance. Respectfully, which is it?................or were you making a joke about the dip at the bottom not being as steep as choke?

If so, my apologies......

Just trying to get a feel for it and I have to wade through those who would try to intimidate........ Is the sand easier to get traction in Utah, or harder?

sorry DSNUT,
let me explain,
there are two different sides that get raced - the Valley side and the Face. The Valley is not steep like Choke, but the Face is.
Then there are the Fingers. They are less traveled runs to the left of the Face that are even steeper.

sand mt. terminology defined

no single setup works best on both runs, if you are geared for the valley you will not do as well on the face, and vise versa. the grades are that much different.

NUT, Hes not being sarcastic.

The face is SO knarly, I have to admit that I raced up the "face" of the hill but came down the valley way. I didnt feel comfortable comming BACK down the face with NO front brakes.. Its THAT severe. Yump too?

Thanks for the clarification. I especially appreciated the terminology!
