JUST GOT BACK FROM A TRIP UP IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN. BEFORE I LEFT I ADJUSTED MY VALVES AND THE QUAD RAN GREAT FOR THE FIRST 10 MILES. THEN THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOOKED IN MY AIR BOX TO FIND AT LEAST A QUART OF OIL. AFTER INVESTIGATING ON THIS SITE IT SOUNDS LIKE I NEED A PISTON AND RINGS. I WANT TO DO THIS AS ECONOMICAL AS POSSIBLE SINCE BEING LAYED OFF FROM THE DETROIT FIRE DEPARTMENT. YOU GUYS ARE VERY HELPFULL, I WAS HOPING YOU GUYS HAD SOME SUGGESTIONS?

Leaky rings could cause excess crank case pressure resulting in oil blowing out the breather tube into the intake, ending up in the air box.

That is the only thing I can think of. Maybe someone else has another theory. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction to me, though.
