Default stubborn clutch case, need help

i am trying to change my clutch springs in my 2000 ds 650. i have taken the water pump cover off. i have taken all of the bolts out of the clutch case and the shifter off. the water pump is still on is that ok? i have tried to get the cover off and no luck. i was wondering is there a trick to it. my only guess is the gasket is whats holding it on. any info would be great. thanks

Water pump has to be off. Also, make sure you took the clutch actuator off of the top of the case.

Check around the case again just to make sure you have everything off. You may be able to break it loose by trying to turn the actuator just a little bit. There are some pins in the case that can bind up along with the shifter shaft and the water pump shaft. Put a little grease on the shifter shaft and use a little pursuasion.

Why does the water pump cover have to be off?? I have removed my clutch cover nearly 10 times now and never touched the pump. You're making too much work for yourself

You do not need to remove the water pump cover. Make sure you get all the bolts out and tap on the cover to loosen it and it should come off.
If you look at pictures 8 & 9 on my page you will see the clutch cover off with the water pump cover still in place.
(Wait for camera to come back up Pending approval for new picts.)

Tip your ds on its side. It makes it a lot easier to work on and no oil will come out. Like everyone is saying, you dont need to romove the water pump.

put a little dab of grease on the water pump gear that will help the gear go into place. also while your pushing the cover on move the actuater a little bit. did you disconnect the clutch cable before taking the housing off?
