I was yes. Now is the groove in the cylinder marked from the very top of the piston down, or midway and down. And what side, intake or exhaust?

I just thought I would share something else I learned today while in Air Fuel school: Fuel gravity is something to consider when those of us run nitrous on the edge. If your NOSS and FUEL are placed in a very close location (not normally recommended) you can overcome the lean problem. As many of you know, Nitrous is extremly light, and can actually pass up fuel. This is the reason why I always recommend at least three inches of space between the fuel dump and the nitrous - with nitrous being inserted into the air flow on the air filter of the carb. There are fuels that are extremely light in terms of gravity - and flow better with nitrous in the air flow. Here are some numbers regarding VP's fuels in terms of gravity:

C12 - For compression ratios below 15:1. Motor Octane : 108 - Gravity: .717 at 60 degrees F
VP 110 - for compression ratios up to 14:1. Motor Octane: 107 - .720 to .735 at 60 degrees F
VP RED - From compression ratios up to 13:1. Motor Octane: 105 - .730 -.745 at 60 degrees F
NO2 - for CRs up to 17:1. Motor octane 120.3. - .699 at 60 degrees F

I just had some very interesting test information while hooking up a 5 gas analyzer to my EX on NOSS. Its interesting because if you follow the NOSS tuning instructions to the 'T' you will always be rich while on NOSS.

My A/F was 10.85 on NOSS with a CO content of 9.8. Thats pretty darn rich, and was tuned per the NOSS instructions. We also did a run on carb only, and found something shocking - I was a tad bit lean, not at all what I thought. Even with a tad bit of a lean carb, I was still rich on the NOSS. I found that I have HP to gain both on and off on nitrous - FREE HP!

Jed and Nate, this is good info - since I also tuned your NOSS. The fact is, you were probably pretty darn protected when on Nitrous. The fact that Jed had more damage than Nate, and Jed was off Nitrous and Nate was on, confirms this in my mind.

I now have a portable 5 gas analzer that I can take with me to the dunes. Then we can find out EXACTLY where you are ON and OFF nitrous. You'll know where I will be next weekend!
