Listen to the interview with Fredrichs. He fully expected that they could win. They surprisingly didn't actually do bad, only an hour back first place, and that after all those DNF's last season. If they didn't think they could compete with the sport quads, I think have had a "utility" class in the past, so they could have entered that class instead?

From your web site man, read the whole thing...

1. Danny Prather, Ramona, Calif./Mike Cafro, Carlsbad, Calif., Honda TRX450R, 10:23:45 (40.81mph); 2. Wayne Matlock, El Cajon, Calif./Chad Prull, Laveen, Ariz., Honda TRX450R, 10:25:25; 3. (17 Starters, 10 Finishers)

What amazes me is that it did get beat by 4 Honda 450s, but it also beat the Hond 450s that finished. How many of those other 7 were Honda 450s is what I want to know. Also, this was the 251cc and over class.....Are we sure that it was the Outlander 800??? The results were not specific there?

>>>>>>>>>

I didn't see one listed??

Honda owns this race period, bikes and quads...I wonder what the variables were?? Maybe the Outlander had some flats, more frequent gas pit stops? I think you came to the wrong forum to slam the Outlander, it is what it is, if you don't like it then to each their own.

I've taken two different lady friends riding the past couple of years for their very first time, they simply wanted nothing to do with shifting and prefer the utility style over the sport and honestly, I feel a LOT more comfortable with them on 4WD auto's out on the trails we ride. This past weekend we were at Foresthill which is basically long, two way, one quad wide mountain trails where you don't get over 10-15 MPH unless you are on a dirt road...anyway, no possible way I'd have taken her to that place on anything but a 4WD auto. She said she MIGHT try a foot shifter, but doesn't wanna mess with a clutch.

The Baja 500 & 1000 are both great races. Just like other sports when your favorite team whens you get some bragging rights. So Good job Honda and fans enjoy the victory.

reconranger,

Do you happen to have a 450R? I understand the guys with 450R's who actually finished 1 - 4 in the Baja 500 having bragging rights about taking down a Bom.

Why don't you come earn some bragging rights of your own by showing up to Sandmountain Utah over Labor Day weekend. You can put a bunch of Bom's to shame and come back here and brag about your own accomplishments instead of the accomplishments of others

Open invitation to line up with me on that weekend Based on these race results, you shouldn't have any trouble cleaning up the lot of us

Rectumranger,
Bomb does not need to prove to you or anyone else that they make tough machines. The DS is the only quad period that can finish Dakar. Its great that Honda can make such a showing at a race like the Baja... I'm not taking anythin g away from them, but come on man... we're talking about a 600 lb ulility quad that is duking it out and coming in 5th with a bunch of sport quads... I think that in it self is a great accomplishment. Besides why aren't you ripping on the other manufacturers... hell Yawnaha, and Suckzuki only had one quad finish. Quit jocking Honda... they are a quality company... no one is disputing that.

They way I see it, 4 beat the Outty, yet the Outty beat 12 and was a utility going up against sport quads. I would take that in a heart beat. That would be like putting the Outty in the Pro class in GNCC and coming in 5th. That would be awesome. Thanks for showing us how well built and great the 800 is. That is why you started this thread for wasn't it.

I'm trying to figure out the pupose of the thread as well. If I understand this correctly, a Honda fan is here to brag about some of Honda's RACE designed quads defeating a UTILITY quad that was raced. And not all of the Honda RACE quads beat the UTILITY quad? Is that really worth bragging about?

Wouldn't that be like me bragging that my Corvette can beat SOME minivans in a race? Wait, more acuratlly, it would be like a 4x4 with a big block entering a road race full of corvettes, and a corvette fan bragging about the fact that the 4x4 only finished mid pack.

ya im gonna have to second Knutz beacuse you have to think a utility is built to work a sport quad is built to race so you have a work/play atv in mid pack with all race quads is pretty good so im sure if someone would have taken the 800 engine made it a manual and put it in a ds it would have easily beaten the 450's
