Haven't been there, but www.dunereview.com has some good videos of it.

they are extremely small dunes that I was bored with after 1/2 day of riding, very small area and the dunes themselves are very small. BUT the mountain trails around and above them are awesome!!! We couldn't get enough of them!! We camped right at the dunes, its 8,000' elevation, and road to over 10,000' from camp as we twisted and winded up eveyr trail we could find. Up in the mountains there are dirt roads made for trucks and cars that you can really haul some serious **** on for long distances. Gotta be careful though, watch the blind corners, you never know if somebody is coming around one for a head on. get a map of the mountain roads, and bring a gps. you can get lost real easy and run out of gas before you find your way back to camp.

Dunereview's pics are great, check them out. They show you all the dunes and many trails. IMO, I'd say its worth your drive from Nebraska, if you bring your knobbies too.

I would agree with what hightower said...the sand gets boring real fast. Only a couple of hills climbs if you'd call them that. But, the trials around the area were fun. I wouldn't bother with paddles. If you have the time and gas, make the trip a little further south to dunes near Roswell New Mexico. (also on duneguide.com) And while you're there...hit the alien museum. it's worth the trip, the dunes have great trails that feel like a roller coaster. Only one or two hills to climb, but fun.

Good luck

There are no "dunes" at walden. There are a couple of hills to climb and a few holes to climb up out of. About
1100 acres.
