Default Cost of parts?

Hey guys.......quick question here......I've got a buddy who spend $1600(with labor) on his ds650(02-04)?? Anyways.....this is not motor work what-so-ever. I think it is just basically a exhaust and intake.....

So my question is......is he getting screwed.....or really good parts.....or does bomb stuff cost that much?? And...what could he possibly be getting? They promised him a much faster quad.......but hell it wouldn't take much to wake it up so someone would feel a difference....but 1600, I'd think he could get atleast a bit of engine work too(or start into the engine.......).....

Well you can get a decent exhaust starting at 350 bucks and...filter lets say 70 bucks, ported intake 160?, cdi box..... they run for what 400? if he gets all that its still only a total of $980 give or take some. Maybe hes getting a carb also...if so they run for a fair bit depending what brand he is getting. But yea 1600 sounds high for no motor work.

I have no idea what he's getting as far as parts/brands......I know its a full system exhaust.....and yeah possibly a new carb(which I think is stupid...I have the same one on my pred I think, and you can mod it to be a good carb for this setup).....and he's also getting the intake setup(I assume just a filter).......so yeah......sounds pretty expensive to me too!!!! I'll report back soon to tell ya what he actually got done to it......after he finds out too!!! jeeze.......

Actually the carb upgrade on the DS is one of the best mods you can do without getting into the engine. The stock carb is OK but it is almost maxed out when you start doing mods to the bike... all I have is a ported intake, pipe and filter and I have the largest jet I could find at my local shop... they do make bigger ones but I'm at a 200 main and the highest mikuni jet for the BSR42 is a 220. The throttle response will be much better with a larger carb and power increase fro sure. Just think about it you a Pred with this carb at 500cc the DS is 153cc larger... it makes sense to me that it would need a larger carb to make up for the added displacement.

yeah I could kinda see that......but our local shop(nicholas cycle)....he race mods the carbs, does wonders to them....I just figured something like that would work too.....but I can see what you are saying. New carbs are nice(bigger and better).....and also expensive.
