Default So you think you are the fastest?

This is not a post about me or my DS but rather a general comment meant to clarify what is in my opinion what we are all after. It is human nature to want to be the fastest on the hill but just when you think you are along comes someone you have never seen and you get spanked. In my opinion how you react to that shows a lot of who you really are as a person.last weekend at the dunes here in Oregon i saw two adults acting like little children after one lost to the other and it was embarrasing to say the least. One guy on a very fast big bore honda beat another guy on a yfz and some words (screaming and yelling)were exchanged and some roosting of sand in the face was done and it was almost go time, not a good deal.I am not trying to tell anyone what to do or how to act but i will say that this sport is so much more enjoyable and fun when you realize that this is supposed to be fun even when you lose. Most of us dont and never will get paid for this so since that is the case just enjoy the fact that we are lucky enough to afford what we have no matter how slow or fast it is.This is nothing more than advice so take it or leave it but i have been duning since the seventies and it is much more fun when you realize that you will (never) be the fastest so just squeeze the most peformance out of what you have and have fun.Its all about perspective and attitude. There, i feel better now.

I am right there with ya man.

But I will add. There is nothing wrong with some good old competition. Its like he said, how you respond after that defines your character. I love to race, but it wouldnt be fun if I never lost. Trying different things, and tweaking here and there, just to try to catch that one guy, is what I enjoy.

Viper i really enjoy the competition as well but lately what i have seen around here on our local hills is a dissapointment. The tweaking for that last little bit of performance is also what i enjoy the most.I chose to have a stock bore motor not so much because of cost but because of the challenge of trying to make it run with the big bores and i am darn close.

VERY GOOD points on the competitiveness of this sport of hillshooting and drag racing........

Learning how to HUMBLE yourself and shake the other guys hand AND thank him for that race is not seen as much these days.......

I for one want to humble myshelf and shake hands and try to become friends with the "competition" for various reasons. BUT above all the first reason is "FOR THE GOOD OF THIS SPORT" When we learn that Humbling experience, then and only then we as competators can move forward.

Viper NICE avatar

A lot of good friendships are started through competition, that is because true colors are shown most of the time through winning and losing. Nothing is worse than paying a winner a compliment, and have them snubb you. If i win Ilike to go over and shake the guys hand or at least give him a thumbs up. Its like you say we are all out here to have fun, there is no money in it for us, just be thankful we are able to compete. I am a big fan of NHRA and you never see the pros throw fits unless of coarse it's Whit Bazemore. They all are pretty good friends.
I am sticking with the stock bore as well, I am hoping that with a little wieght loss me and the bike, I can close the gap.

I would not usually bring up a subject like this but i am seeing so much bad behavior that i felt compelled to give my opinion.I recently had a Banshee rider do his best to run me off the hill when we were racing and i can only guess that he was not happy with having a heavy old DS run right with him.BOO-HOOOO!!!!My wife is constantly commenting on the bad behavior from a lot of the people that i line up with and it may be inevitable that this will continue but still it is irritating.I dont want to give anyone the idea that i will go easy on you at the drag hill because as anyone that has lined up with me will tell you that is not the case but i also will try to learn from losing rather than throwing a fit.

Too many people are running there mouths beyond just racing the hill. With non-organized events you always have perception of rolling starts and if they sprayed the motor or not. Then you just got the guy who thinks talking like he is a thug or a gangster makes him cool. He doesn't know when to shut his mouth till someone does it for him. Its the riding buddies of these guys that seem to get the worse of it they don't have a clue what they are in for till it's going down.

Rcoop-I worked with and lived around real "gangsters and thugs" in southern California years ago and most of the so called bad guys that i have seen around here would wet themselves to see what these guys would do if provoked.I am not promoting violence as a solution to the ignorance of some at the race hill but i get your point. All i can do is try to set the example and beyond that i have no control.
