i just wanted to know how much a shift fork job runs on the ds im not having any problems with it popping out of gear but it is really notchy and you cant shift without the clutch it just wont go in.
another thing its doing is if you go thru the gear while the bike is not moving but on it will go into 1st ok but once you shift upto 2nd 3rd 4th 5th you have to clutch it all the way in click it into gear in but you dont hear it go in until you let off the clutch half ways and it goes in its the say for every gear 2ng-5th any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.

That doesn't sound like a shift-fork issue to me.
Do a search for shift forks / engagement dogs. . . there is some info on here.
Typically when the shift forks start to go your bike pops out of gear going into second. The fork gets grooves on it that don't allow the dogs to be fully engaged when shifting. If it goes long enough the edges of the dogs will wear and it will get worse and you'll be looking at more than a new set of shift forks.
I've got a builder up this way that is one of the best for DS motors (search Preacher). His shop rate is 1/2 of your local dealer.
I'ld guess you are looking at about $400 to split the cases and reassemble. You'll need a new head gasket $60, new shift forks $50 X 3, a new base gaskett $10 and ???
Preacher would have you pull the engine and send it to him. Engine is pretty easy to pull on the DS. . . just takes about 3 to 4 hours. Nice if you can have a buddy help you.
Hows your clutch look?

Hows your clutch look?
i dont know ive never been inside of the motor the bike has less than 40 hrs on it. but ive driven all kind of quads the feel when shifting is alot smoother on all of them exept the ds but i have never driven another ds so i have nothing to compare it to, to see if it normal.

Sounds more or less you have a clutch issues. I had similar problems. Try adjusting the clutch or if you bought your DS used, consider spending a bit for a new clutch. Moto-man.com has a barnett 9 disc setup with springs (I believe) cheaper than the 8 disc setup Ron Wood sells em for.
