Default 2005 ds650 oil censor ?

The boot protects the sensor from water getting in. It came out on the 06 models. My dealer can't find the boot in his parts list but I had it siliconed in, its sealed so no problems since.

Some people put in an oil pressure guage so in the event the the sensor fails they know they still have oil pressure. Also, watch dust in your radiator fins, can cause you to run hot.

Last time my sensor failed I was 99% sure what it was so I kept riding but it's pretty unnerving to see that red light on, kinda hard to enjoy the ride.

enjoy the ride with that red light shining at me though.

Mine did the same thing when it was new. The oil sensor can give you a red light if one of the check valves are stuck. One of them you have to split the cases to get to and the other I believe is behind the oil filter. My cases had to be split for it to be fixed. Brand new out of the box and it had to be torn down completely. Gotta love them DS's, eh?

But, it's a known problem that the oil sensors go bad sometimes if you ride deep water or power wash it.

Just sealing it might not solve your problem. You need to make sure your check valves are working otherwise you can roach the engine. I'd suggest talking to your mechanic.
