Default Stock Carb Mods - Summary

Hi there OMR
Boy that is a heavy duty answer.
I run with my air box lid on pretty much all the time. I was wondering If I should hook the emulsion tube back up, or If I should change the air jet?
I have a Polaris Predator carb as a spare, Maybe it has an appropriate sized main air jet. ( I will check) I guess I would like your opinion? Will I get a better performance gain with the lid off and a smaller air jet?
Thanks.

The clear breather/balance tube can be put in stock position if lid off. It only helps throttle slide performance in lower gears with lid on.

Predator carb is identical to DS carb.

Buy the new air bleed jet and it will help in all combinations - lid on or lid off.

My son has not put his lid on since we found this new feature. If you are going to ride in lots of water then put the lid on and jet smaller.

There is a noticable improvement with the lid off.

Ok I will get this air jet ordered on Monday.
I did notice a huge difference in my low to mid range thanks to your carb mods.
Thanks again.

Default Stock Carb Mods - Summary

Hey OMR, First off thank you for all your insight. I am just about to make some changes to my 05' DS 650 and was wondering the best route for the carb would be.
Right now My ds is stock and here is the list of mods about to take place...
1. Big gun full exhaust
2. Big gun rev box
3. K&N in the air box
4. 15 tooth front sprocket (16 stock i believe?)
5. 22 inch itp sandstar rear tires
6. I also have the dyno jet kit for the carb.

I used to have an 01' with the big gun and dyno jet kit with the filter on the carb. I had 20" kenda trakkers and in third and fourth i would just spin the tires to hard so I got the 22" for this one with the hopes of better traction for hill climbs.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated..

Rob

Got a few dollars from uncle sam, getting final quotes for jet kit parts shortly.
I can only afford 5 kits, but if they sell and get good reviews, I will order more.
Would you be interested.

Sure, I might be interested... How much $ and what all is included? What kind of gains should be expected.

I am waiting for my pipe to come in and then I was planing on performing my mods. I will probably add one part at a time except the pipe and jetting.. Was thinking of doing your mods first so i could see the difference as i add each part.

Default Stock Carb Mods - Summary

All right I am still trying to get my DS650 jetted correctly and I think I am getting a little closer.
Here is a list of changes I have made from stock:
-Jardine RT4 Exhaust
-Big Gun CDI
-K&N air filter
-15 tooth ft sprocket
-22" rear tires
-Both stock and OMR modded carb.

I am at around 1000ft

As I mentioned earlier I have tried all the stock carb mods including the smaller air bleed jet. I love the gang in low to mid but found I was still lean at top end even with a 195 main jet, DJ needle in third groove.
I have a couple extra carbs so I decided to try a complete stock carb to see the difference. I found that my top speed was still 72-73 mph by GPS. Also that I was still running lean with a 190 DJ main jet, stock needle in 4th groove.
I moved the needle to the 5th groove and thought it might have helped a bit. I then changed to a 200 DJ main jet and did a run. My top speed was just over 75 mph at 7200 rpm and I finally started to get a bit of a brown tinge on the tip of the spark plug.
I would like to try a larger main jet but my kit only goes to a DJ200.
I noticed that I seem to be running a much larger jet then other people with similar mods and altitude.
So I am by no means a pro at this. I would like to know if anyone might have a clue what is going on with these large jet sizes? Any suggestions on what I should try next?
Thanks.

hey i just finished doing these mods to my carb, but have one question about the clear tube. I removed it and sealed both ends. Is this right? Or does the carb still need to breath?
