Baja Winning DS 650
#1
This weekend was the annual motorcycle supershow and the Bombardier factory race team was there. What a bunch of nice guys and obviously blazing fast. They said the DS was exactly what the desert racers have been waiting for.The winning DS engine was completely stock internaly with the rev limiter in place and was clocked at 100 mph on the fastest straights. If Bombardier should decide to give them support for the 2001 season the team is confident they will have some #1 plates to prove which quad is race ready right out of the crate. Not even a chain adjustment was necessary the entire 1,800 miles.2 chain rollers were consumed and 1 clutch. When they first picked up the DS they abused it for an entire week trying to break it and couldnt, even the stock skid plates were left on and not 1 oil change the entire race. The guys were sure that if they would not have abused it the first week and had the oppurtunity to change the oil during the race the clutch would have held up just fine.If you get the chance to go to one of these motorcycle super shows the DS will blow you away the racers are such believers its just great.looks like we have ourselves a winner!

You can't just "gear" a machine to run as fast as you want to. 42 horsepower along with about 500 pounds (wet) of machine + probably another 175 pounds of rider is not gonna get near 100 mph. Go buy some sprockets and tires and see for yourself. Later guys.

Whoa wait a minute, you are doubting the word of Dean Sundahl. This Man is a legend to the sport of atving, He started on three wheelers (factory honda), next Dean started racing Banshees in '90 (i think), acually an RZ motored quad with a hand built frame(not positive on the frame, but have the mag in a box) and as is the bomber it was long and tall. Pretty much anything Dean Sundahl says is gospel to me, he's involved in racing because he enjoyes the sport and he's damn good at it, he is the KING of the desert in my book (He's got to be getting close to two decades of desert racing). I'm sure he'd like a factory sponsered ride (Be an idiot if he didn't), but I'm sure of his integrity. Nuff said

And for those of us that own and know how to ride and work on an atv, the 100mph is easy to beleive, whether it be a ds, trx250r, banshee, or even a raptor. Have personally rode banshee's at 100+, and have had R's that would do close to 100, and could have easily been geared for over 100! All you arm chair riders, and you know who you are, talk smack about things you have no idea about, my DS tops out at over 80 with stock gearing only pipe and filter! Bearman your post is right on target and those unable to accept that the DS is the best built quad from the factory to date simply cannot look at something and tell it's quality and workmanship is a cut above the rest. You will please take notice I didn't say it was the fastest in a drag race, this is not the highest priorty of a true all around rider, and to a desert rat it is even lower on the list.

If you cant change the gearing to get more top speed then how do you do it? We ran 17/37 gearing with 22inch Bandits and gained over 40%. On paper thats over 100 miles an hour. I've won several Baja 500 & 1000 mile races on a 250r and this bike was a good 20 miles per hour faster. Tell you what bring you raptor down to Baja and see how fast the Bomb goes by you!!
