Well, according to my calculations the speed of the Bomb would have maxed out a fraction shy of 95 mph.

Assuming a 2.76 primary reduction and a 5th gear of 0.88 (thanks Scooby), stated 17/37 gearing, stated 22 inch tires, and known 7,700 rpm limit:

7700 rpm / 2.76 = 2789.85507246

2789.8507246 / 0.88 = 3170.28985506

3170.28985506 / 2.176 (sprocket ratio) = 1456.93467603 (axle revolutions per minute)

Tire circumference = 69.11 (rolling) inches

69.11 x 1456.93467603 = 100,688.75546 inches per minute traveled

100,688.75546 / 12 (inches per foot) = 8,390.72962166 feet per minute traveled

Figuring that 95 mph is equal to 8400 ft/min, the Bomb is a hair off 95 mph on paper not counting tire expansion at speed. With tire expansion at that speed the mph will of course be higher. So yes, the question of whether or not it could hit “almost” 100 mph is solved.

Please note: If someone can prove this wrong by all means please point out the error of my ways. I’m going off what I learned in math classes in college from eight years ago.

The only other factors you could add in would be going down a slight grade with a tail wind and on the pavement!I didn't say I was going up a wash or or in the dirt, part of the course has miles of pavement and this section going to Santo Thomas the front tires looked like they were going to pull off the beads,I thought they looked like bicycle tires.
To you other guys talking about dunes come try the ultimate dunes Glamis,Gordon's and Buttercup before they close.

Quicksand'
your calculations look good to me, if you replace the modified gear and tire ratios with the factory set up, you get a top speed of 75mph which according to all test I've read about is right on the money.

Might just do that after christmas bajarow, If i can i'll let you know I'd like to meet you guys if it was possible. Glamis is the ultamate sand box and one of the only ones in the west I haven't been to. Good to have you in the forums, there are alot of people that think they know everything after riding for a few years and who are booksmart, but there is no experience like seat of the pants experience in my book and this takes time. Ride it like you stole it guys it's built for it, the Bomb. It's all good

here's the proof
http://www.off-road.com/race/2000b2k/rtroa1.html

the bottom line is that the mighty Raptor driven by Heuvos producer Wes Miller's "Dream Team" of professionals like Tim Farr, Doug Gust, etc. finished behind the first place (ATV class, 41st overall) Bombardier DS650, four Honda 400EX's, and two Honda 4x4's (don't know what kind)

the second place 400EX came in 17 minutes after the DS650... not bad in a 41 hour race, huh?

the first 4x4 came in 3 hours and 12 minutes behind the DS650

the Raptor came in 16 hours and 16 minutes behind the DS650

was it all just bad luck for the Raptor? maybe, but there were two other Raptors that entered the race... plenty more Hondas, and NO other Bombardiers

Maybe it was just luck for the Bombardier? NOT!!! ... the Raptor was designed as a good "all-around" quad, the 400EX was designed as a good "all-around" quad, the DS650 was designed for the desert, and the desert alone!

Looks like Honda EXCEEDED their expectations by finishing second, looks like Yamaha met their expectations just by finishing the race, and it looks like Bombardier met their expectations since that's what the DS650 was designed for.
