Default Exhaust Packing

Just curious what all you guys use to repack your stock canister. I repacked mine with a popular exhaust companies' product...company sounds similar to HMF...couple of letters off on the 1st letter...Anyway, I've ridden about 6-10 hours since and noticed my stock exhaust with ODP Disc end cap, started sounding alittle loud. Pulled the cap off and much to my surprise...ALL the packing was gone. Did I install it wrong or did it burn off that quick?? Any advice would be great!!

I think you are talking about FMF packing and if so that is what i use with my stock can and ODP disced end cap with good results. The packing must be stuffed in very tight or it will blow out at a fast rate.Actually performance wise the stock can and the disced end cap can work as well as most of the pipes out there if you keep the can packed and use enough discs.

Packing is just House insulation fiberglass,, you can get it at any hardware stores, get the white not pink, unless your feeling sassy

ERBEDS650 the packing that we are talking about is much more dense and heavy than the typical house insulation used.I guess that the house insulation would work but you would have to pack it very tight because it is so loose as compared to the FMF type of packing.

Yep packed dence and tight I use it on the 2 stroke silencers and the 4 strokes. At 1 time I used an open weaave fiberglass cloth x 2" wide .010 thick as a base around internal baffle with the packing , then a another wrap over it, would last longer in the silencer, but was louder so we use the Johns Manville is white fiberglass

I may try the house insulation that you mentioned. It would be cheaper for sure than the FMF packing that i normally use.Does it hold up for as long as typical packing?
